iCleanLanguage Safely removes unwanted language files
iCleanLanguage has one purpose: to remove unwanted language files from your computer. On OSX, these files can take up as much as 4 GB of space and unless you wish to run your Mac in these languages, they are completely unnecessary. iCleanLanguage does this by scanning for these files and then selectively removing them. You select which languages to keep and also which directories and applications you wish to clean. There is a "search Only" feature that allows you to make a dry run without any files actually being removed. You can also select which languages to save and which applications to skip over.
Note: You can also drop any application or folder on iCleanLanguage icon and you will be presented with a dialog asking you if you want language files removed. this is handy if you download a new application and want to clean it first.
iCleanLanguage is very simple and intuitive to use.
The main window

To remove language files
- launch iCleanLanguage.
- Open the Language list tab.
- Un-check any language groups you want to keep.
- If there are any applications you wish iCleanLanguage to overlook open the Exclude list tab.
- Return to the Cleaning tab and select which directory or area you want icleanlanguage to delete language files from.
- Check the "Only search.." checkbox if you want iCleanLanguage to perform a dry run. No files will be deleted and you can see a log report of the search.
- Press "Run"
- When completed, the progress "spinner" will stop and a log of the process will appear in the blue log window. This will show which languages were kept and which ones were deleted for specific directories and applications.
The other two tab windows

The languages list
- ICleanLanguage will remove files for any language that has a check next to it in list window.
- To save a particular language from removal, un-check its box in the list window.
- When iCleanLanguage runs it will save all the languages that are not checked in this list.
- That's it!

The exclude list
The exclude list window allows you to collect any applications you want iCleanLanguage to overlook when deleting language files. People have reported that certain applications such as Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Entourage, Microsoft PowerPoint, can not be updated after removing unnecessary language files. I do not know if this is true. iCleanLanguage provides a default set of excluded folders to protect these applications. You can remove them and add your own at your own risk. There are also reports that Adobe applications may have similar issues. For this reason you may want to exclude certain applications from language file removal. Some people also need to use only some applications in different languages. Developers also do not want to remove the language files from their projects.

The log window
After iCleanLanguage runs it shows a log of what happened. This is a very useful feature as you can also run iCleanLanguage in "Search only" mode and see in the log what would have happened but not actually remove anything. It will also show you what the sizes of the files to-be-removed are and the final amount of space saved from the whole process.
![]()
There is also a log file called "Localize.log" in your User/Library/Logs folder. This is part of the Mac log system and has a special window for viewing logs. If you run iCleanLanguage on a the whole system for instance, this log viewer will be easier to use than iCleanLanguage log window which tends to freeze up with very large amounts of text in it.

Using iCleanLanguage as drop box
You can drop any application or folder on iCleanLanguage icon and you will be presented with a dialog asking you if you want language files removed. this is handy if you download a new application and want to clean it first.

Notes:
- iCleanLanguage may take a while to search and/or remove unwanted language files. If you select the "Whole System" or "All System files" it can take an hour or more depending on the number of files on your Hard Drive and the speed of your computer. For the regular installation of OSX Leopard, on a G4 2GHz Macbook Pro, it takes about 50 minutes for the "All System files" category.
- If you select "Whole System" or "All System files" the final size of the log text in the log window may be very large depending on your system. This may cause the window to freeze if you try to open it or scroll to fast. Alternately there is a log kept in your User/Library/Logs folder called Localize.log.
